London, UK, December 8, 6pm

“Palestinian Queerness: The Intersectionality of Resistance”

Queer Cinema for Palestine solidarity screening + discussion

Friday, December 8 at 6pm – Mayday Rooms

The event aims to contextualise the struggle of the Palestinian people in the intersection between anticolonial, anticapitalist and feminist global endeavours. This contrasts greatly with mostly Western feminist accounts which continue to neglect the existence of Palestinian queerness. This narrative also legitimises the existence of Israel as “the Gay capital of the Middle East”, a process which should be examined within the settler colonial strategies of rebranding and rainbowashing to nornalise its existence on Palestinian land.

The event will be followed by a fundraiser with food and drinks. All profits will be devolved to SOS Gaza.

Cinexist is a cinema club pioneered by Mawjoudin, a Tunisian queer organization concerned with providing multiple services for the LGBTQAI+ community in Tunisia. Among these services is the hosting of weekly screenings of international and regional queer films. This week, we are looking forward to collaborating with Queer Cinema for Palestine and being part of the global event. We seek the privilege to showcase impactful queer Palestinian films from their platform, followed by a fruitful debate delving into the pertinent issues these films address, enriching the dialogue around the Palestinian struggles under the current political climate. This intersection of cinema, activism, and exchange of views contributes significantly to a more inclusive and empathetic society.
